IBJ Editor Thomas Watson is an award-winning business journalist with significant experience in the corporate world, where he headed investor relations (and served as a whistleblower) for a global venture capital outfit and has managed major accounts at international marketing/PR firms. As a senior feature writer and columnist with Canadian Business magazine from 2001 to 2011, he served on the editorial board credited with garnering the publication’s Magazine of the Year nomination in 2009. Watson’s investigative work at Canadian Business—which focused on corporate crime and governance failures—was repeatedly recognized for excellence by the National Magazine Awards Foundation. As a regular contributor to leading business publications, Watson pens Financial Post Magazine’s “Big Picture” column, which examines major market events and trends. In addition to his duties at IBJ, Watson works with Ivey faculty on MBA case studies and executive education programs. He also assists the Ian O. Ihnatowycz Institute for Leadership in raising awareness of best practices in governance and management. Watson holds undergraduate degrees in history and political philosophy. As a graduate student, he studied journalism, political theory, international politics, public finance, and macroeconomics. Post-graduate studies included securities and market regulation.
